AVL Antenna 1.2
The 1.2M USA/Global Fly & Drive SNG Antenna System incorporates a segmented reflector
antenna with the lightweight AvL positioner mounted to a load frame and shipping pallet. A roof
mounting kit quickly converts any station wagon, SUV or mini-van into an SNG vehicle in 30
minutes. The system can also be used on the ground or on a building roof like standard flyaways.
When installed on a vehicle, it allows quick response to a moving news story.
The complete Fly & Drive antenna system is packaged in three containers (with no
container exceeding 100 lbs.) and 115-inch linear dimension, which has the potential to be shipped
as “checked baggage” on certain airlines. The load frame with the positioner is one container and
measures 60” x 25” x 21”. The second container holds the two segments of the reflector and is 28”
x 50” x 18”. The feed assembly plus the vehicle and ground mounting equipment are in the third
container. If airfreight is used, the feed assembly can be packed in the main pallet thereby
reducing the dimensional weight.
AVL RF System 1.2
The Fly & Drive system uses the Vertex/RSI Quick Deploy 1.2M Ku-band offset antenna. This
system is optimized to provide high gain and low sidelobe radiation levels. The USA model is certified
for USA and PanAmSat satellites. The Global model incorporates a mode-matching feed system to
ensure compliance with EUTELSAT, INTELSAT, ASIASAT and PANAMSAT cross-polar specifications.
The transmitter can be mounted on the feed boom or in the vehicle.
AvL Positioner
The positioner features the simple, rugged Roto-Lok® drive system, which provides zero
backlash, high stiffness, and extraordinary reliability. Handcranks are incorporated on az and el axis
in case of power failure. The system will interface with the RC3050 jog controller that displays the
position of each axis, together with limit indications, plus auto stow and deploy. The system also
interfaces with the full function RC3000 controller that allows addition of GPS and Fluxgate compass
for automatic satellite acquisition anywhere in the world and signal-tracking during high wind conditions.
Transportation Pallet and Roof/Ground Mounting Kit.

Designed and constructed to provide a rugged, lightweight but stiff
load frame for mounting the system to the roof of a vehicle or to use as a ground mount. Wheels are
fitted to the pallet for easy transportation. The pallet mounts to three cross beams secured to the roof
gutter or factory luggage rack of the vehicle with quick mounting attachment brackets. A lightweight,
nestable cover protects the system during transportation. The pallet can be easily weighted down with
sand bags or secured with ground anchors that are provided.
